Although it seems a little odd that one of the world’s most famous sports car companies could pull off a decent SUV, the Porsche Cayenne is considered a fine car. Since its introduction in early 2003, the Cayenne has been given high marks in virtually every category by the world’s automotive press. Today, Porsche, a Towson car dealer tells us the Cayenne has become one of Porsche’s most popular models.
One reason is variety. The 2013 Cayenne, for example, has a large number of engine options, ranging from the base V6 to an uber-powerful turbocharged V8. For the gear shift set, the base model comes with a six-speed manual transmission but most seem to opt for the optional eight-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of the model, auto writers comment that all engines are plenty powerful and are well matched to their respective drive trains. Fuel economy will vary, of course, depending on the engine/transmission combination and ranges from some 15/23 mpg city/highway (the base engine option) up to an excellent 19/29 mpg with the all-new diesel powerplant.
Journalists comment that the fit and finish of the Cayenne is exceptional. One reviewer commented that the “2013 Cayenne offers an luscious, upscale cabin, constructed with some of the highest quality materials currently available”. Reviewers especially seem to like the Cayenne’s front and rear seating. Many comment that the seats are especially comfortable with a large variety of upholstery options and, unlike many SUVs, that the visibility from the driver’s seat is excellent.
